Unique in Annecy

Your travel vaccines,
done at the pharmacy.

Heading abroad? In Annecy, the Pharmacie du Pont Neuf is the only pharmacy offering a travel health consultation: our qualified pharmacists prescribe and administer every travel vaccine — except yellow fever — with no doctor's appointment needed. A straightforward path in two appointments: a travel consultation to work out what you need, then the vaccination itself.

  • Prescribed and given on site
  • Advice matched to your destination
  • Malaria prevention
  • No doctor's appointment
  • International certificate issued
  • From age 11
How it works

In Annecy, from consultation to vaccination at your pharmacy.

Following a change in their role, qualified pharmacists in France can prescribe and administer travel vaccines to anyone aged 11 and over. You no longer need to see a doctor first: everything happens at the pharmacy, across two appointments.

At the travel consultation, we go through your destination, your vaccination record and your health, then prescribe the recommended vaccines. The vaccination itself is then given here. The one exception is the yellow fever vaccine, which is restricted to approved international vaccination centres — in that case we point you to the nearest one.

Vaccines we commonly give

Depending on your destination and your history, we can vaccinate you against:

  • · Hepatitis A and B
  • · Typhoid fever
  • · Japanese encephalitis
  • · Rabies
  • · Meningococcal disease (ACWY)
  • · Routine boosters (tetanus/diphtheria/polio, whooping cough…)

Yellow fever is not given at pharmacies: it is handled by approved centres.

For non-travel vaccines — flu, Covid-19, boosters, HPV — see our vaccinations at the pharmacy page.

Another walk-in service: rapid sore throat and cystitis tests.

A rare service

In Annecy, we are the only pharmacy offering it.

Why do so few pharmacies do this? Prescribing travel vaccines is not routine vaccination: it requires specific authorisation and training for the pharmacist, plus dedicated consultation time. Few pharmacies have set it up. To date, in Annecy, the Pharmacie du Pont Neuf is the only one offering the complete pathway — the other option in town being the international vaccination centre at the Annecy Genevois hospital.

In practice that means no doctor to see beforehand and no hospital slot to secure: the travel consultation, the prescription and the injection all happen in one place, on avenue de Chambéry, within a timescale we control.

  • No prior medical appointment — the prescription is written here, by the qualified pharmacist
  • Two appointments, one place — the consultation then the vaccination, with no shuttling between services
  • In the centre of Annecy — 38 avenue de Chambéry, open 6 days a week
  • Bookable online — a travel consultation slot on Doctolib, at a time that suits you

This pathway has limits, and they are strict: yellow fever remains restricted to approved centres, and our protocol excludes certain situations (under 11s, pregnancy, a weakened immune system…). They are set out just below — we would rather you knew before booking.

Full transparency

Who we cannot vaccinate.

Our travel consultation follows a formal protocol written with doctors. It sets out precisely who we can look after — and who must be referred elsewhere. We would rather tell you before you book. We check for these situations systematically at the start of every consultation.

Situations where we have to refer you
  • Children under 11 The protocol covers only people aged 11 and over. We cannot vaccinate younger children before a trip. → Your GP, your paediatrician or an international vaccination centre
  • A previous serious adverse reaction to a vaccine If an earlier vaccination caused a serious adverse reaction, whatever the vaccine, the decision is not ours to make. → Your doctor
  • A previous severe allergic reaction Anaphylaxis to a vaccine or to one of its components rules out treatment at the pharmacy. → Your doctor, or an allergy specialist
  • A weakened immune system or an autoimmune condition Acquired or inherited immunodeficiency, immunosuppressant treatment, immunomodulating therapy or autoimmune disease: several travel vaccines are live attenuated vaccines, which are contraindicated in these situations. → Your GP or your specialist
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding If you are pregnant, think you might be, or are breastfeeding, travel vaccination falls outside our protocol. → Your doctor or your midwife
  • Yellow fever required and never received If your destination recommends or requires yellow fever and you have never had it, your whole travel preparation must be done at an approved centre — not just that one injection. → The international vaccination centre at CH Annecy Genevois

Situations that simply mean a delay

These do not rule you out: they call for a postponement, a technical precaution or an extra check on our side.

  • A fever or current infection We do not vaccinate during an acute febrile episode or an ongoing infection. → We push the appointment back a few days
  • Anticoagulants or a clotting disorder An intramuscular injection calls for specific precautions, but is usually still possible. Do tell us about your treatment. → Suitable precautions, agreed with you
  • A contraindication specific to one vaccine We check every vaccine under consideration (severe kidney impairment, particular medical history, drug interactions…) before any injection. → Vaccine swapped, postponed, or referred on if needed
  • Any contraindication we cannot manage here If a situation goes beyond the protocol, we will not take the risk of handling it ourselves. → Referral to a doctor or to the vaccination centre

Falling outside our protocol does not mean you will not be vaccinated — only that the decision is not ours. In that case we do not send you away empty-handed: we refer you to a doctor or to the international vaccination centre with a referral letter, and we advise you on everything that is still within our remit (malaria prevention, mosquito protection, travel first-aid kit). When in doubt, our rule is simple: we do not vaccinate, we refer.

    about 20 minutes
    • A personal assessment based on your destination
    • A check of your vaccination record

    • An international certificate of vaccination issued
    • Any boosters planned in
World Health Organization international certificate of vaccination, the yellow booklet, issued at the Pharmacie du Pont Neuf
A useful extra

Your international certificate of vaccination.

Once you have been vaccinated, we give you the World Health Organization's international certificate of vaccination — the well-known yellow booklet — with the vaccines you have received recorded in it.

  • ✓
    Recognised internationally
An official document accepted at borders and by health authorities.
  • ✓
A clear record of your vaccines
Dates, boosters and vaccines given, all in one place.
  • ✓
    Useful for future trips
Keep it and present it next time you travel.
Planning ahead

Leave enough time.

Many travel vaccines are given as several spaced-out injections (an initial course followed by one or more boosters). Those boosters need to be finished before you leave for the protection to be complete. To travel properly protected, we suggest you:

  • ✓
Book 6 to 8 weeks before departure
Time enough for any boosters, and for immunity to build.
  • ✓
    Bring your vaccination record
So we can check what is up to date and avoid unnecessary doses.
  • ✓
    Tell us your exact destination
Recommendations vary from one region to another within the same country.
  • ✓
Mention any pregnancy or current treatment
Some vaccines call for particular precautions.

Leaving very soon?

Even a few days before departure it is often not too late: some protection is still worthwhile and we adapt the schedule as best we can.

Come and talk to us, or call +33 4 50 45 90 99 — we will quickly tell you what is possible.

Tailored advice always beats giving up on the idea.

Frequently asked

Your questions, answered.

Where can I get travel vaccines in Annecy?

There are two options in Annecy: the international vaccination centre at the Annecy Genevois hospital, and the Pharmacie du Pont Neuf, 38 avenue de Chambéry. We are currently the only pharmacy in Annecy offering a travel health consultation: our qualified pharmacists assess the risks linked to your destination, then prescribe and give the recommended vaccines on site, with no need to see a doctor first. Only the yellow fever vaccine remains restricted to the approved centre.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. The service involves two appointments: a travel consultation (about 20 minutes) then the vaccination. Book on Doctolib or call us, ideally 6 to 8 weeks before you travel.

What happens at the travel consultation?

It is a conversation of about 20 minutes with your pharmacist: we assess the risks linked to your destination, check your vaccination record, prescribe the right vaccines and advise you on prevention (water, food, mosquitoes, malaria).

Which travel vaccines can you give?

Our qualified pharmacists prescribe and administer every travel vaccine except yellow fever: hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, meningococcal ACWY, along with routine boosters (tetanus/diphtheria/polio, whooping cough…).

Do you vaccinate children before a trip?

From age 11 only. Prescription and administration of vaccines by a pharmacist apply to people aged 11 and over. Below that age we cannot vaccinate your child: we will refer you to your GP, your paediatrician or a vaccination centre. We can, however, advise you on malaria prevention, mosquito protection and a first-aid kit for the whole family.

Are there situations where you cannot vaccinate me?

Yes, and we would rather say so up front. Our protocol does not allow us to treat: children under 11; people who have had a serious adverse reaction after a vaccination or a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to a vaccine or one of its components; people who are immunosuppressed, on immunomodulating or immunosuppressant treatment, or who have an autoimmune disease; women who are pregnant, think they may be, or are breastfeeding; and travellers who need the yellow fever vaccine and have never received it.

Other situations simply mean postponing or adapting the vaccination: a fever or current infection (we reschedule), anticoagulant treatment or a clotting disorder (precautions for the intramuscular injection), or a contraindication specific to one vaccine. In every excluded case we refer you to your doctor or to the international vaccination centre, with a referral letter.

Do you give the yellow fever vaccine?

No. The yellow fever vaccine is restricted to approved international vaccination centres. And be aware: if your destination recommends or requires it and you have never had it, your entire travel preparation must be done at an approved centre — not just that one injection. We will then refer you to the international vaccination centre at CH Annecy Genevois, with a referral letter. If you are already vaccinated against yellow fever, we can handle the rest of your preparation.

Do you issue an international certificate of vaccination?

Yes. After vaccination we give you an international certificate of vaccination recording the vaccines given. This document, recognised abroad, travels with you and makes it easier to keep track of your boosters.

Do you offer malaria prevention?

Yes. Depending on your destination and the season, we advise you on malaria prevention (antimalarial treatment, mosquito protection) and the hygiene measures to follow while you are there.

How far in advance should I come?

Ideally 6 to 8 weeks before departure. Many vaccines need one or more boosters completed before you leave, protection only becomes effective after a delay, and some vaccines occasionally have to be ordered in. A last-minute departure is still worth discussing: come and talk to us.

What does it cost? Is it reimbursed?

The cost depends on which vaccines you need. Most travel vaccines are not reimbursed by the French health system, though some complementary insurers cover them. We give you the full details at the pharmacy: call us on +33 4 50 45 90 99.

This service follows a formal protocol and is limited to people aged 11 and over. Excluded are: a history of a serious adverse reaction to a vaccination or of a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine, immunodeficiency, immunomodulating or immunosuppressant treatment or autoimmune disease, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and a first yellow fever vaccination. This service does not replace medical advice if you have a particular condition. Vaccination recommendations depend on your destination, your health and the health requirements in force. In an emergency in France, call 15 (SAMU) or 112.
